About Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a stress-reduction and relaxation technique originating from Japan and the East. It is energy healing; it means Universal Life Force energy. Anyone can become a Reiki Practitioner or Master, and anyone can receive Reiki.
Reiki is a powerful and effective energy healing modality/technique which helps to restore the body’s natural energetic balance. Some call it a stress-reduction and relaxation technique; others refer to it as energy healing, a form of energy healing or healing energy. Regardless of the words used, its implication is clear: Reiki offers a way to assist a person with their own healing. Reiki is a channelled healing, meaning this soft and gentle healing energy flows from the Highest Source, through a practitioner, to a client. Reiki offers healing on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. It is important to keep in mind - particularly when discussing topics such as energy healing - that we are all composed of energy. This makes sense: we are energetic beings living in a physical body, in a physical world. And because of this we can acquire blocks in the natural flow of our energy over time, which in turn can present themselves physically as a result of many factors, including negative emotions or stressful situations. In other words, issues which can begin on the energetic level can become expressed as illness in the physical body. Reiki has the capability to offer healing on the emotional, physical and spiritual levels, and a person may even have a Reiki session for general well-being, and not to purposely address a specific malady.
Reiki is from the Highest Power (by whatever name(s) you are most comfortable using, such as God, Goddess, Universe or Source) so it is never depleted. Practitioners actually benefit from the flow of this gentle energy during Reiki sessions. Some people have reported remarkable healing stories as a result from Reiki treatments - including Sarah, who can now eat fresh fruit for the first time in years!
How does Reiki heal? What does it do?
While Reiki is taught, it also isn't something that can simply be "learned." Although there is thorough and professional training involved, no one can just learn about Reiki and say afterwards they are a Reiki Practitioner or Master/Teacher. There are several reasons for this, however the main reason is that because Reiki is a channelled healing, a person must receive an "attunement," which actually changes a person's energy field that enables Reiki to flow through them to a client. This attunement is a highly powerful experience and for some people it can be life-changing, and is performed by a Reiki Master/Teacher. From that moment on, they are able to share this amazing gift of healing with virtually everyone and everything. Simply, their life will never be the same!
This energy focuses its healing toward the cause, or area, of a problem, wherever it may be present. For instance, if you have a sore knee the Reiki energy may focus on that injury, or perhaps the root cause - for example, a fear of moving forward in life, which actually manifested in the person's physical body as a knee injury. It really does have its own sense of knowing, always aware of where healing is most needed. Any scepticism or belief in Reiki, or personal belief systems, will not change the effectiveness of Reiki at all.
What happens? What's it like?
Reiki is extremely flexible in the ways a person can receive it, including a full-length in-person session, a Reiki chair treatment, or a distance Reiki session. There are no time or space limitations with Reiki, so a person could be on one side of the world and still receive the full benefit of this energy, while the practitioner could be on the other side of the world. An example of this would be like you calling your friend who lives in the New Zealand, while you live in Ontario, Canada. Just because you're both not in the same room doesn't mean that you can't have a great conversation and feel connected with that individual by picking up a phone and dialling a few numbers. This is a similar concept of a Reiki distance session.
It's always a little difficult to describe exactly how Reiki works or what a person may feel during a Reiki session, as this is unique to the people involved and at that time. However, the positive results which have been observed and experienced are clear. Some report seeing colours, feel heat, warmth, coolness, tingling, a deep sense of peace, may fall asleep or feel nothing at all. It's different for each person, every time. Each session, like each person, is different and offers different, positive experiences for client and practitioner. The experiences a client has are precisely what they are intended to have at that time.
There are different types of Reiki. Sarah practices Usui Reiki, introduced to the West in the 1920's by Makao Usui, a wise teacher from Japan. Reiki has increased in popularity during recent years here in North America. Even some conventional Western hospitals offer Reiki to patients, and scientific studies prove the legitimacy and effectiveness of this fascinating healing energy.
*Please note that at this time Sarah not offering Reiki sessions. However, she would only consider offering Reiki sessions on an individual, as-requested basis. If you are interested in scheduling a session or to discuss this further, please click here to contact Sarah to further discuss.
